Since beginning its life together as a body (over 45 years ago) this congregation of believers has truly lived up to its name of HOPE Church as its members have sought to faithfully serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Many of the names and faces have changed, yet the commitment to faith and service has continued.
The people of Hope United Presbyterian Church are a diverse group of believers representing all ages, activities and gifts. We are a church characterized by a warm spirit and genuine interest and concern for all who enter our doors. As a church body, we seek to provide a wide variety of opportunities for growth and fellowship in the hope that all might find a sense of belonging and a place where they can be involved and serve.
Though we are a diverse people, we are unified in our common faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and in God’s Word as the foundation on which our lives are built. We are united in making Hope Church a force to advance the cause of Christ’s kingdom here in Plainfield, Hendricks County, and around the world.
As we look to our future, we realize there still is much work to be done, yet we approach that work with a sense of challenge, excitement and hope. We invite you to come and join us in our journey of faith and life together, as we celebrate the wonderful work of Jesus Christ, as a church family
How we're organized
Hope United Presbyterian Church is
a member of the
Whitewater
Valley Presbytery, a governing body of the
Presbyterian Church
(USA). We are organized according to the denomination’s Book
of Order. Men and women are nominated and elected by the
congregation to serve two year terms as ordained elders and
deacons, and as trustees.
Session
The congregation’s chief governing body is comprised of
elected "elders" who represent the members. The Session is
moderated by the pastor. There are Session committees, each
moderated by an elder. The Session is responsible for the
mission and governance of the church.
Deacons
Given authority for congregational care by the Session,
they are elected to two year term. In addition to
congregational care, Deacons are charged with the overview
and management of the church’s financial resources, the care
and use of the church building and grounds, and with
hospitality toward the congregation and guests.
